April Newsletter 2023

April Newsletter 2023

Dear Families,

We hope all of you had a relaxing Spring Break with your families.  Even if you didn’t travel, the slow mornings and extra time at home was hopefully a needed reset for everyone.  It’s hard to believe we are entering the final eight weeks of school! Although there's a short time left, there is so much learning that will continue to happen and fun community activities planned by our Home and School Club.

A huge thank you to all of our families that participated in the Apex Run! It was another successful year and we look forward to continuing with all of the enrichment activities, online programs, and teacher resources that we are able to provide based on this fundraising.  Our students did so well, they even had an opportunity to pie me (Mrs. Cull) with a mega pie! We hope your student enjoyed it as much as the staff and will continue to use the leadership skills that were taught over the two weeks with our Apex coaches.

This month, Open House will be taking place on April 27th.  Please join us between 6-7:30 PM to see some of the projects students have been working on over the past few months.  It’s a great way to see the learning that takes place every day!  Along with Open House, we will be celebrating our “Love of Reading” Week April 24th-28th.  We are looking for community members to volunteer to read during library hours.  If you or someone you know is interested in being a guest reader, please reach out to Ms. Harris at harrisj@mhusd.org.  Volunteers can stay for one 30 minute session or join us for multiple classes.

April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month. MHPD and CHP will be patrolling, before and after school, to help keep our students safe during drop off and pick up.  A friendly reminder to please drive distraction free in our school zone. This means staying off of your phone as you go through the drop off and pick up lines to make sure our community stays safe!

SAVE THE DATE: Our first annual Bike, Walk and Roll Event will be taking place on Thursday, May 4th.  We encourage everyone to ride their bikes and scooters or walk to school that morning.  Special prizes will be handed out to students that participate.  If you are unable to start safely from your house, you can join a group at the three places listed on the map that is attached.  A reminder will be shared as we get closer to the event.

Along with the events planned by HSC, we will be hosting two “Coffee Chats” for families to ask questions directly to us!  These will take place 30 minutes before each HSC meeting and will be an opportunity for families to share questions, concerns and thoughts around issues that are impacting their students.  No need to RSVP, please join us if you can.
