Principal’s Message

Carta de Bienvenida

Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to another fantastic school year! We have so much to celebrate at Nordstrom School, and it is because of the support from the families, our highly qualified teachers, and the committed and engaged students that we are so successful. We are all partners in the educational journey of children. As a team we strive for excellence in academics, and in the social – emotional development of children.

At Nordstrom we value compassion, honesty, and open communication. Nordstrom staff is dedicated to developing curiosity and productive perseverance in students. Our desire for students is that all students are passionate about their learning.  We strive for students that are eager for new knowledge and are engaged in their education.  Further, our aspiration is that students are compassionate and contributing citizens in their community.  These ideals can be achieved by having teachers and families that are committed to inquiry and model curiosity for their students.  Instilling the desire to learn and to be contributors in our community creates engaged students that are involved!

Elementary years are among the most memorable and I am proud that all of our Nordstrom teachers have engaged in a variety of activities to enhance your child’s educational pathway this summer.  All staff members have participated in professional development in writing to provide us with strategies on how to make literacy standards even more engaging and challenging.  Several of our teachers have participated in Guided Language Acquisition Development (GLAD) courses to enhance student engagement and language development. Our collective intention is to always improve teaching strategies in effort to raise student expectations for learning.

Nordstrom will be implementing Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) this year. PBIS is a framework or approach for assisting school personnel in adopting and organizing evidence-based behavioral interventions into an integrated continuum that enhances academic and social behavior outcomes for all students.  Our implementation team will be attending trainings and then returning to the school site to inform and apply the learned skills.  We are very excited to bring this approach to Nordstrom School.

It’s going to be an amazing year at Nordstrom! Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to talk to your child’s teacher, our wonderful office staff, or myself. I look forward to seeing you at Back-to-School Night on September 7th, 2016 from 6:00 – 7:30.

We have so much to learn and so much learning to share with students. We are anxious to begin the journey.

Warm regards,

Mrs. Grove
